I had a great conversation with a colleague this morning. He focuses on providing thoughtful estate planning service to his clients. We discussed the approach he takes in drafting documents for his clients. His approach brings in more of the client’s voice into the documents. The goal is to make the documents accomplish the estate planning goals while also bringing the client’s voice into the picture so that the people concerned in the will understand where the client is coming from and are more inclined to respect the client’s wishes and less inclined to challenge them.
I found that fascinating and it’s an approach that I would like to bring into my work. Not just in the estate planning work, but also in the business planning. I want my clients to feel like the document is theirs and not just some piece of boilerplate that has their name on it.
